Translate JanRain Products
Localization to native languages is important to us here at JanRain. Apologies for making this page English-only but its a requirement for our translation process to be able to speak English. We’ve been working hard to make our sites compatible with other languages, and although we’ve built the sites, now we need help from volunteers that can translate English to another language to help complete the process. In just a few hours you can help make our sites more compatible to other users of your native language.
MyOpenID
We are starting our efforts with MyOpenID, the premier provider of OpenIDs.

The Translation Process
We have written the Nam-Shub application to simplify the translation process. Nam-Shub is located at http://translations.janrain.com:8008. To get started, please contact us at i18n@janrain.com so we can grant you access to the site. You’ll receive an invitation from Jyte.com to join the ‘JanRain Translators’ group. Sign in to Jyte with your OpenID and accept the invitation. You can then sign-in to Nam-Shub and start translating.
Translating
Each translatable string in Nam-Shub looks something like this:
The boldface text at the top (inside the red circle in the screenshot) is the filename and line number where this string was found. There may be more than one filename listed if the string appears more than once. This can be helpful in determining the context of a particular translation, or to identify a translation when talking to other translators or JanRain developers
The English language string (the green circle) is the string to be translated. You should enter your translation of this string into the input box directly below it.
There are also some tokens in the translation strings that need to be ignored. These tokens are variables that are used to replace strings that are generated by the sites that will use the translations when a page is loaded. Tokens can be of the form %d or %w as well as %(another_token_type)s. Any tokens that appear in the English language string must also appear in your translation.
If the checkbox labeled ‘Fuzzy’ (in the blue circle) is checked. this translation was guessed by the translation program, and won’t be used until it has been checked by a human. Once you’ve made sure that the translation is appropriate, you can uncheck the ‘Fuzzy’ box.
Searching
Nam-Shub allows you to search for translations with certain attributes. At the top of each page is a search box that shows what search filters are currently active, and allows you to change your search options:
The default behavior is “Show All Messages”. To search, first select the “Search Messages” radio button to activate the search options.
The ‘Untranslated’, ‘Fuzzy’, and ‘Translated’ checkboxes search for messages that match ANY of those conditions — so checking all three boxes is the same as selecting ‘Show All Messages’
The ‘Filename contains’ and ‘Message contains’ boxes select messages that match the provided string AND any ‘Untranslated’, ‘Fuzzy’ and ‘Translated’ checkboxes that are checked.
Press the search button to execute your search. The status message (inside the blue circle in the screenshot) shows you the total number of messages in this translation project, the number you have selected, and which message in the selection you’re currently viewing.
Saving and Uploading
When you’re finished translating the strings on each page, click the ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the page. This will store your changes locally inside of Nam-Shub.
If there are changes stored locally in Nam-Shub that haven’t been uploaded yet, there will be an ‘Upload Changes’ button on the page. Clicking the button causes all pending changes for this file to be uploaded to our test server at http://utest.magbox.com. Your changes should be visible there within a few minutes of uploading them. Changes are stored with your OpenID, the translation you were working on, and any (optional) remarks you added in the Comment box.
