Navigating Pibb

We have worked to make Pibb as intuitive to navigate as possible. We suggest checking out our screencast for hints and ideas for getting around Pibb:

Dashboard

Your Pibb dashboard is the center of your Pibb universe.

From here you can see if you have any missed messages in your subscribed channels or from your Pibb contacts.

Pibb Dashboard

You can also invite users by email to Pibb, check for system notices (messages), and search all of Pibb right from your dashboard!

Subscribing to Channels

If you find a channel you wish to keep track of click on the ‘Add Channel to Dashboard’ link in the top right hand corner of each Pibb channel.

Subscribe to Channel

This will add the channel to your dashboard, you will be alerted if any new messages are posted to this channel while you are away.

Logged In Users

What does that dot next to people’s name mean?

  • Green means you are online and active (as noted above) you will appear active in any channel you are subscribed to, you dont have to have the tab open
  • Orange means you are idle (for more than 5 mins)
  • Grey means you are offline

When am I shown as Online?

As long as you are logged in to Pibb and are subscribed to a channel, you will appear logged into it (see bottom right on the Pibb web interface for who’s logged in) whether or not you have that channel’s tab open, showing at the top of the window or closed. This is different from IRC where you might join channels when you connect, but otherwise, you enter and leave channels regularly, whereas on Pibb, you subscribe to channels until you remove it from the dashboard.

Inviting to Pibb

Pibb makes it easy to get everyone you know on Pibb. You can invite them via email through the dashboard (pictured below) or through the invite link on the bottom of channels (shown above). If you know someones OpenID you can make sure they are invited to your channel when they login to Pibb by using the invite link (shown above) on the bottom of channels.
