Create Your Own Channel

Creating a channel in Pibb is very simple…

  1. Login to Pibb and go to the ‘Dashboard’
  2. Click on the ‘Create a Channel’ link at the bottom left
  3. Create A Channnel

  4. Enter Your Channel Name and click ‘Create’
  5. Channel Name

  6. Your channel will be created and you will be taken to your new channel’s landing page

Administering your channel

Channel Administration Page

Once you channel is setup you can customize your channel similar to the way you customize your personal profile.

  • Channel Description
    • A brief description of what this channel is all about.
  • Channel Icon
    • You can upload an icon which will be displayed for this channel. Uploaded images will be scaled down to 32×32 if necessary.
  • Tags
    • Tag your channel with relevant keywords
  • Access Control
    • Set channel administrator and make channel public or private
  • Recommended Starred Threads
    • Select the threads that will be starred by default when a user joins this channel. (See Thread Management for more info on Starred threads)
  • Channel Embed Code
    • Paste this snippet of HTML into your web to include a login link that automatically subscribes users to this channel.
  • NOTE: Don’t forget to hit ‘Save Changes’ to save your new settings

Promoting and sharing your channel

Your channel landing page has several features that will allow you to easily share and promote your channel

  • RSS Feed
    • Every public channel on Pibb has an RSS feed, copy this link and paste into your favorite reader and get all the updates via RSS!
  • Channel Backup
    • Click this link to download all channel content in html format to backup/share/etc.
  • Direct Link
    • This link will take people directly to your channel
  • Invites
    • On the bottom right hand corner of Pibb you will see an ‘Invite to Channel’ link. Click on this and enter either an OpenID (message will be sent via Pibb and will be received when person logs on) or enter an email (actual email message will be sent) to invite someone to your channel.

Creating topical threads in a Channel

One of Pibb’s many great features is the ability to create topic specific threads within channels.

Simply click on ‘Start a new Thread’, type in the thread name, click ‘Add’, thats it!

Embedding Threads

Threads can easily be embedded into any web page, just copy and paste the ‘Thread Embed’ code (highlighted in green in screenshot above) into any page and you will end up with a Pibb thread embedded in your site which should look like this:

Thread Management

  • Starred threads (aka ’sticky’) threads are always present in the Active list, regardless of whether they have had recent activity. You can click on a star next to a thread to make it sticky.
  • There is also a “Sticky” filter in the thread list (see the drop-down above it) to show only Sticky threads, or only Active, or All.
  • The threads in the All view are sorted by subject, alphabetically.
  • Channel administrators can choose which threads are sticky by default for new users in a channel, and then users can customize those settings by clicking stars in the thread list.
