This is an exciting day here at JanRain. We’re pleased to announce that we have secured $3.25 million in Series A financing. The financing, which was led by DFJ Frontier with participation from RPM Ventures and Anthem Venture Partners, will help us further accelerate our innovation and delivery of comprehensive identity solutions for our customers and partners. It has been an exciting journey for us since 2005: From the early days of developing the open source libraries for OpenID, launching myOpenID.com, and playing an integral role in the formation and governance of the OpenID Foundation, to introducing the first private label solution that enables websites to issue branded OpenIDs and the first and market-leading turnkey solution that enables websites to register and login users with their existing third party identities. During the past few years we have learned a lot about what tools website operators need to create more compelling interactions with their customers. We introduced RPX in October of 2008 after engaging in numerous discussions with companies and website operators that wanted to start realizing the many benefits of third party authentication, but lacked the time, resources and expertise to build such functionality in-house.
The last year has seen RPX being used on over 170,000 websites and deployed by companies such as Sears, Universal Music Group, Fox News, Tribune Interactive, EMI Music, Kmart, Qype, Scout24, DC Shoes, Get Satisfaction, UserVoice, KickApps, Wetpaint, and many more. Along the way we’ve received great feedback from our customers and partners too.
“JanRain is revolutionizing the online identity space for the benefit of website operators and consumers,” said David Cremin, a managing director of DFJ Frontier. “Like Akamai did with CDNs and Salesforce did with CRM, JanRain is fundamentally changing online identity management, making registration, login, and user data management dramatically more intuitive and convenient.”
The journey continues as we aspire to make RPX the standard for user authentication and social publishing on the web. As always, please feel free to drop us a line and let us know what additional things you’d like to see from us!
